Four Years of Concepts
Hello, readers!
I'm Mark from studio Flesh Pond Games. I wanted to log the design changes that Silent Echo has gone through in the 4 years of concepts. This project was originally created back in February of 2020, and I've been picking and prodding it for quite some time.
A big part of the game is that I wanted the idea of the whole game being a 1:1 pixel game which is why boxes look like they play a huge part of the game. This game was originally designed on Unity.
The original design of this game was really, really simple.
But to be fair, as a concept it seems fine, but this is nothing like what a project with a lot of love and attention may end up.
After some time, I enjoyed the idea of the game being a VHS story and so the switch happened into being more TV.
And I was enjoying this design a bit more, but it still wasn't TV enough.
Once had ideas about moving the screen to show inventory and calendar dates to not clutter the screen, but then ultimately I decided to use the current version.
My main appeal for using this system is that the TV system is still there, the dialogue doesn't clutter the main screen, I can use more of a focus on the character expressions, and still have a system on the bottom left to track your character. (This also allows for some story flavor down the line (; ).
Thank you for taking some of your time to read about the development of Silent Echo!
